EXERCISE

Most dogs will, on the whole, exercise themselves, particularly if there are children around. When there is a small backyard and you have a big breed of dog, it makes exercising the dog a necessity if you do not want the dog to become batty and destructive through boredom and frustration. Generally speaking, all dogs should be taken out a couple of times a week, even if it is just to give them a breath of fresh air.

Contrary to popular opinion of the bigger breeds, some individuals enjoy lying about and strenuously resist too much exercise.

Several of the larger hound and gun dog breeds are extremely boisterous, and will take all the exercising that you hand out and look disappointed when you collapse. These are ideal dogs for joggers! If you want a sedate life do not inflict one of these on yourself - you will only get frustrated and so will the dog.
